<p><strong>Severin Blanchet</strong>, a French documentary filmmaker who was training young Afghans, died Friday during an attack by insurgents in a hotel for foreigners in Kabul where he was staying. He was 66.<br />
The French Foreign Ministry and the Ateliers Varan, a French film school with which Blanchet was affiliated, both offered condolences. Blanchet had been in Afghanistan since 2006 organizing classes in documentary film-making for young, aspiring Afghan filmmakers.</p>

<p>Club Mama Gemütlich is a hybrid combination of ‘field hospital, missionary post and nightclub&#8217;, in the no-man&#8217;s-land of a conflict zone.The installation by Bastiaans is based on the architectural layout of the Noh theatre and consists of sculptures, photographic works, video, a film, and works on paper.Bastiaans&#8217; signature way-finding rhetoric revealed in the multi-layering of various media provides a humanistic salve: the stories and oral histories the artist has collected from his visits to conflict zones weave a tapestry of Divine Madness into a tour de force of inspiration, poetry and hope.The centerpiece of the exhibition is Bastiaans&#8217; new 28 minutes film.The film, with the same title as the exhibition, consists of seven scenes. Each scene derives from a found war- photograph and takes place in an improvised shelter for a group of wounded soldiers.</p>

<p class="Normaa1">In zijn boek probeert Karskens de handelwijze van deze idealisten duidelijk te maken en te laten zien waarom zij hun hart volgden. Hij geeft aan in de radio uitzending, dat ook hij ooit uit idealisme dacht over het ter hand nemen van de wapens; in de jaren 60 en 70, de tijd dat de wereld nog maakbaar heette. Uit een oprechte woede over zoveel ongelijkheid en vuiligheid in de maatschappij. Ik realiseer me, dat ik die gedachte ook ooit had, alleen besloot ik de camera te gebruiken als wapen. Met als eerste gevolg mijn film Mama Calle. (1990-1991)<code>

<p class="Normaa1">Het is voor de ontwikkeling van La Lotta Continua van belang, dat ik dat onderzoek. Die woede die je hebt bij onrecht en die maakt dat je daar ieder van op de hoogte wilt stellen. Die oprechte woede, die maakt dat de een een wapen kiest, de ander het journalistieke woord, de camera en weer een ander de schoonheid van de filmvertelling daarvoor gebruikt.</p>

Of the Berlin DADA group, John Heartfield remains the best known photomontage artist.<strong>Overzichtstentoonstelling Heartfield</strong>Museum de Fundatie presnteert in zijn Zwolse vestiging Paleis a/d Blijmarkt een overzichtstentoonstelling gewijd aan John Heartfield (Berlijn 1891 – Berlijn 1968). Diverse collages uit zijn Dada-periode, boekomslagen en ontwerpen voor het Malik-Verlag en vooral vele tientallen fotomontages voor de Arbeiter Illustrierte Zeitung geven een in Nederland nog niet eerder vertoond overzicht van zijn oeuvre.<strong>Arbeiter Illustrierte Zeitung</strong>John Heartfield (geboren Helmut Herzfelde) kwam voort uit de Berlijnse Dada-beweging en claimde samen met George Grosz de uitvinding van de fotomontage. Hij was één van de belangrijkste politieke kunstenaars van het interbellum en zette zijn kunst in als wapen tegen het nationaal-socialisme. Wereldberoemd werd de communist Heartfield door de tientallen covers die hij maakte voor de Arbeiter Illustrierte Zeitung tussen 1930 en 1938, waarbij hij op uiterst effectieve wijze het nationaal-socialisme bekritiseerde. <p class="MsoNormal">This sympathy, however, was shaped according to American political tendencies of each period: from a liberal pro-republican position in the 40s, when Nazism was the enemy, to the upholding of Franco’s regime in the 50s, when the adversary was Communism.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">This evolution is narrated through the personal story of Alvah Bessie, a Hollywood screenwriter who fought as a member of the International Brigades in the Spanish Civil War. Alvah returned to Spain 30 years later, where he was required to write his only film after being blacklisted as one of the “Hollywood Ten”.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">The documentary includes excerpts from movies such as &#8220;Casablanca&#8221;, &#8220;For Whom the Bell Tolls&#8221;, &#8220;The Snows of Kilimanjaro&#8221; and &#8220;The Way We Were&#8221;, among others. It also features comments by actress Susan Sarandon, screenwriters Arthur Laurents and Walter Bernstein and cinema historians Román Gubern and Patrick McGilligan.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">“A war in Hollywood” is an original approach to one of the most controversial subjects of our times: the relationship between film industry and politics.</p>
