Italy’s minister of culture said he would boycott next week’s Cannes Film Festival after a documentary on the L’Aquila earthquake in April 2009 he deemed propaganda was included in the programme.
Sandro Bondi declined the invitation, expressing his “regret and his concern” over the selection of “a propaganda film, ‘Draquila’, which insults the truth and the Italian people”.
“Draquila: Italy Trembles” by the comedian and satirical author Sabina Guzzanti, will be screened out of competition at the 63rd Cannes festival running May 12-23. (more…)
ROME 4-02-2010 —Italy’s government is forging ahead with plans to extend television-broadcasting regulations to Web sites that host videos, marking one of the most sweeping attempts by a Western government to tighten control over the use of video on the Internet.
According to new regulations that have recently been proposed by the Italian government, YouTube would have to get a TV license to operate in Italy. Should Italy move ahead with this regulation, YouTube would have to follow the same rules and regulations as traditional broadcast channels. These new rules would eliminate the “safe harbor” rules that currently shield services like YouTube…

The debate over press freedom in Italy is growing as thousands of Italians rallied in Rome on Saturday and the European Parliament gears up for a discussion of the issue in a plenary session this Wednesday. De koning van Italie.Berlusconi grijpt de kans de aardbeving te gebruiken om zich als nieuwe Koning van Italie te profileren. Ooit sprak hij : ” Met de juiste tactiek kun je de Italianen echt alles wijsmaken.” Op de Berlusconi zenders zie je hem continu in het rampgebied, als vader des vaderlands. Hoe moeten de Italianen weten, dat in het buitenland er anders over hem gedacht wordt? Is het in Italie taboe te zeggen, dat de media bijna volledig door Berlusconi gecontroleerd zijn? Ik vraag het aan een jonge Italiaanse filmmaker. Ze verzuchtte, dat het politiek asiel aanvragen steeds dichter in haar buurt komt. Weliswaar cynisch bedoeld, maar makkelijk hebben de kunsten het niet in Italie. “Right and Berlusconi give jobs to people, who are obliged to do something in return. Left idem ditto.” Protesteren tegen de kerk, het zijn voor abortus of euthanasie is een reden voor hardhandig optreden door politiek en politie.(more…)
Vanaf 26 februari draait Il Divo in de Nederlandse bioscopenDe Italiaanse politieke film is aan een interessante vernieuwing bezig. Eerst Gomorra zien en dan Il Divo. De beide films onthullen het huidige Italiaanse politieke leven. De acteur Toni Servillo won voor zijn rol als Andreotti terecht een Europese Oscar. Toni Servillo speelt Andreotti in Il Divo en de malafide afvalverwerker Franco in Gomorra. Een prachtige acteur en voor mij in mijn zoektocht naar het politieke in de Italiaanse speelfilm interessant om te volgen. Ik zou hem willen spiegelen aan Ele d’Artagnan de acteur, gentleman en zwerver, die in de tijd van Fellini acteerde. Ele was een acteur, die een politiek en anti bourgeois engagement had.
