HIGGS documentary and the latest news
At the very same moment at which our HIGGS documentary had its most succesful world première at the International Documentary Filmfestival Amsterdam, particle beams started once again circulating in the world’s most powerful particle accelerator at CERN. Both in Amsterdam and Geneva the champagne tasted very well! Now, the latest news is that the first low-energy collisions are expected for today.
Who said that good documentary making is all about timing?

Beste,
Eerst en vooral gefeliciteerd met deze mooie film. Die op een boeiende manier liet zien waar het in wetenschap om te doen is : enthousiasme, gedrevenheid, doorzetting, nieuwsgierigheid, nederigheid. Toch vind ik het als nederige Belg (die dan toch een beetje chauvinist mag zijn ;-)) jammer dat de twee Belgische onderzoekers Brout en Englert niet vermeld werden. Uiteindelijk hebben ze op hetzelfde ogenblik hetzelfde wiskundig mechanism ontdekt dat het Standaard Model van de natuur vorm gaven. Ik meen me zelfs te herinneren dat Higgs nog niet zo heel lang geleden toegegeven heeft dat ze zelfs eerst waren. Beide artikels die het mechanisme beschrijven zijn trouwens gepubliceerd in dezelfde uitgave van Physics Review (Letters). Maar kom, dat is een detail dat de waarde van de film niet onderuit haalt.
