Rob - finding a location of your own

Seven years ago, Dutch radio and tv journalist Rob Hessing decided to move to Auroville, the place I visited in India in the spring (read my blogposts on Auroville here). He now lives there with his Australian wife (whom he met there) and their daughter. For family reasons and work they travel a lot to Holland or Australia. I met Rob this week in Amsterdam and we discussed the subject of dislocation.

How does Rob feel – with his habitat spread out over the world? Located or dislocated?

Dorrith and Patrick - L.A.T. or settling down?

Dorrith and Patrick are in The Netherlands after a ‘trial’ period of living together in Hong Kong for the past 4 months. Have they decided to settle there together? In other words, are they located or dislocated?

House party

Last night at a small party in the new house of Jouco and Alan, on one of Amsterdam’s canals.

Alan, who is originally from San Fransisco, says he never wants to move houses again. They did major works on this beautiful place that used to be a hospital, before moving in three weeks ago. Thoughts run through my mind… when will I have a house to call my own again?

Yvonne - back from dislocation

Yvonne - ‘backpacker on a mission‘ in Nepal has returned home to Switzerland a couple of weeks ago. During her visit to Amsterdam this week, we talked about our time together at Kopan monastery, and how she feels about being back ‘home’. In other words, does she feel located or dislocated?
