English version of ‘Beyond the Game’

Many visitors of this blog asked us about the english version of the documentary on Grubby and Sky by Jos de Putter, Beyond the Game. More information on the documentary with english subtitles and a DVD you now find on ESL Shop. The DVD contains extra’s: interviews with Rob Pardo, Chris Metzen and Chris Sigaty from Blizzard, and with Grubby, Sky, Moon, ToD and MaDFroG.

What moves the Warcraft generation? The documentary ‘Beyond the Game’ goes behind the scenes and into the minds of the world’s most famous Warcraft players. Yesterday the film by director Jos de Putter was broadcasted on Dutch television by HUMAN Media (Human.nl).

Gamers meet in Tuschinski

Sunday March 15 ‘Beyond the Game‘ had a special screening in Tuschinski Amsterdam. Afterwards, the ESL Pro Series Final was played. Manuel ‘Grubby’ Schenkhuizen and documentary maker Jos de Putter were present. Jolien Steenman and Ellis Bakker made this video for HUMAN.

‘Beyond the Game’ next week

Next week (Dutch film week starts Thursday March 26) you can watch ‘Beyond the Game‘ in the following Dutch cities and cinemas:

Nijmegen (LUX), Amsterdam (Ketelhuis en Studio K), Delft (MustSee), Breda (International Film Festival Breda)

Untill the 26th of March you can watch the documentary in Amsterdam (Ketelhuis, Rialto en Studio K), Utrecht (Louis Hartlooper Complex) and Cinerama in Rotterdam.

The documentary ‘Beyond the Game‘ will be released in Dutch cinemas this Thursday the 19th of March. René Glas, Dutch PhD candidate and lecturer in the Department of Media and Culture at the University of Amsterdam, wrote about the film by Jos de Putter on his blog:

‘By taking eSports and its players entirely serious, Beyond The Game manages to pierce deeper into game culture than most other media reports and documentaries made from the ‘outside’ of gaming (apparantly, De Putter had no prior knowledge about or direct interest in eSports or computer games before making this film).’

Saturday March 21st the documentary has a screening in cinema Het Ketelhuis at 7.30 pm. A Q&A (question and answer) with filmmaker Jos de Putter will take place afterwards.

The official trailer of Beyond the Game is now online and available on YouTube. Embed the trailer on your blog or website.

The film will be in Dutch film theatres from March 19th 2009. Sunday, March 15th, a special screening will be held in Tuschinski Amsterdam (The Netherlands) at 11.30 am. Afterwards the ESL Pro Series Final will be played. One of the participants is main character of the documentary and World Champion 2008 Manuel ‘Grubby’ Schenkhuizen.

Ticket sales for this special screening start Wednesday February 11th via www.pathe.nl.

Voorpremière en finale ESL Pro Series in Tuschinksi - Amsterdam

Voordat ‘Beyond the Game‘ van Jos de Putter in de Nederlandse bioscopen draait (vanaf 19 maart 2009) wordt een uniek evenement georganiseerd: ‘Beyond the Game’ heeft 15 maart om 11.30 uur in Tuschinski 1 in Amsterdam een speciale voorpremière met aansluitend de finale van de ESL Pro Series in aanwezigheid van hoofdrolspeler en wereldkampioen 2008 Manuel ‘Grubby’ Schenkhuizen. De kaartverkoop start woensdag 11 februari via www.pathe.nl.

Na afloop van de film zal ‘Grubby’ het op het podium opnemen tegen een nog te bepalen tegenstander in de finale van de ESL Pro Series, een competitietoernooi dat binnen de gamerscommunity vergeleken wordt met de Eredivisie van het voetbal. In de Benelux wordt hierin ieder half jaar om een prijzenpot van meer dan € 5.000 gestreden. Commentaar tijdens de finale wordt voorzien door shoutcaster Machiel de Klerk. (more…)

The documentary ‘Beyond the Game‘ of Jos de Putter had its premiere during the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA) 2008. The film will be in Dutch film theatres March 19th 2009. Sunday, March 15th, a special screening will be held in Tuschinski Amsterdam (The Netherlands) at 11.30 am. Afterwards the ESL Pro Series Final will be played.
